Photography Ideas And Textures
On Friday me and Sophie went out and took some photos for ideas for our video, and texture ideas for our digipak.
Shot Analysis
We looked at music videos that had the same genre music as our chosen track, and had to count how many shot changes there are.
Proffesional Music Video: La Roux-Bulletproof.
Shot changes in - 30 secs: 14
- 1 min:34
I then looked at one of Hurtwood House music videos: Walking On A Dream
Shot changes in - 30 secs:14
- 1 min:27
Thoughts On The Music Video
What Am I Excited About:
- The experiments, ideas, trying new things and adapting ideas because it will be good for future projects, and will also good for gaining skills.
- Seeing the final result because i want to see the publics reaction and to feel Ive accomplished something.
What Am I Worried About:
- Another group is making a video for the same track, and our ideas our very similar.
- Making the video convincing. Location and performance.
How To Solve The Problem:
- Rethink our idea, or mix it up a little so there not so alike
- To Make it look convincing we need to plan!
Hurtwood House Video
This is a video I particularly liked that they made. To remake this without a budget I would black out a room which is simple. Borrow some decks off of a friend, for the dancers i could go to the dance block of college and ask them. For the letters on the wall i could get some MDF and cut the lettering out, then put lights behind it. For costumes I could get the jacket from a charity or second hand shop, and for the dancers rent them for a day, or go somewhere like Primark.

Pitches
Today everybody pitched there ideas, and the rest of the class gave feedback. Our feedback was mostly positive with a few questions like How will we get the surreal effect? All of the feedback will help come up with solutions or alternatives.
Pete changed his mind and decided to let our group and Rob's group do Shadows. We are glad he did this because we had the strongest ideas for this, and are confident that we can do a good job for this track.
Some Band Research
Au Revoir Simone is an electronic indie band made up of three girls from Brooklyn, New York which formed in 2003.
The band members are Erika Forster (vocals/keyboard), Annie Hart (vocals/Keyboard), and Heather D'Angelo (vocals/drum machine/keyboard).
The bands name comes from a line in Tim Burton's Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.
By getting their name from a Tim Burton film, this helps me understand that they like the weird imagery and ideas Tim Burton has which then leads on to inspiration for ideas for the video.
Contacting The Band
Angelica Emailed Au Revoir Simone through Myspace. She wrote that we are a group of AS Media students and are hoping to make a music video with their song Shadows. She put links to our blogs and the key note we made so they could take a look and tell us what they thought. Then Angelica talked about her idea for the music video.
'They replied saying 'Thanks for the inquiry! Yes, you are welcome to use Shadows for this video. Good luck!'
This gave our group some confidence for the video knowing we have contact with the band.
Angelica, Sophie & Liam's Shadows Pitch
View more documents from longroadcreative.
This is the keynote we made for Shadows. It includes our postcard, the bands websites and a few of our ideas on how we can imagine the music video looking.
Postcard and Moodboard

This is the Postcard and Moodboard that Me, Angelica and Sophie made using Photoshop. For the Postcard we effected it to make it visually different, and we wanted to keep the colours the same as there logo. For the moodboard we wanted to get pictures of shadows, alice in wonderland, and forest based around our ideas.

Wikked lil grrrls by Esthero ( second idea )
This is our second Pitch idea, When I listened to this song it reminded me of the muller adverts.
This is how i would imagine the music video to be. It is set in posh olden days, there is possibly a casual party. Then the singing and more upbeat music starts and the singer comes in with bright clothing, crazy hair and make-up. The video would be filmed at this party of the singer lip syncing while going round spilling drinks, kissing random men etc.

Track list

Her is the list of song the class was given to listen to. I thought there were a few good songs, but only a small amount of songs were i could imagine a video. For example Strange Times by The Black Keys I had the picture of a black and white/News print like video. The songs were a bit calm and slow, nothing upbeat and catchy. Our group (Me, Angelica and Sophie) listened to the tracks and wrote down what we thought about each one of them.
Jasmines Talk
In Tuesdays lesson Jasmine come to talk to us about her experience in music videos, and to give us a few tips. She won Sh entered the BBC Blast competition with her Media A level music video and won first place. Here is the video:
.
This is a good video. Jasmine told us that the scenes with the bus and motorcycle were on the spot filming to the video. By winning the BBC Blast she was given the chance to make a music video with professionals, and a £3000 budget. The song she was asked to make a music video for was Lets Dance To Joy Division by The Wombats. Here is the video she made:
In preferred this video to the first, because it just has that music video feel, and looks very professional. Jasmine said she would have liked to edit it herself, but she didn't.

One tip that jasmine said that i found most useful was, if your not sure what shot do next or don't know how draw a storyboard. Then you can play around with that scene, and get the best result.

Shapes Music Video
This is the shape music task we did for an exercise in class. We opened photoshop and used the shapes tool. We picked the shapes we wanted to use and imported them into final cut express. The aim was to put the shapes to the beat of the song. The video isn't very long, but i feel i have gathered a strong understanding about it.
My Generation Music Video
MY GENERATION LONG SHOT 2 from cmdiploma on Vimeo.
This is the music video the class made together. The song was My Generation by The Who. I was the bassist, and because i didn't have a strap found it quite difficult to hold the guitar up. However the task was very fun, and it was nice to get the whole class involved.

Personal Statement
Technical Skills:
I have gathered some good editing skills in Final Cut Express at school by making a film opening, also some skills in Sony Vegas Pro 9, and Adobe After effects from home. I also know some things in photoshop by using at school, and at home. I enjoy photography, which could come in useful for the Digipak.
Creativity:
Me and my friends are always discussing what would make a cool music video, and how it would fit with the genre etc. Good for ideas.
Organization:
For the risk project i wrote a blog on my progress what i'm improving etc. It had to be organised, which i did.
Special Powers:
I can provide instruments. I have acoustic, electric, and bass guitars. Also a keyboard. These are essential for a music video.

Music Video
This is the music video that me, Hannah, Emma, and Yasmin made. The song is wannabe by Spice Girls. This is mine and Hannah's edited version. We used a thing called markers on Final Cut Express to match the music with the video. This makes it easier for videos where you are lip syncing.

I am looking at Silence Is Golden by Garbage. Garbage is a Scottish/American band that formed in 1994 in Madison, Wilconsin. There debut album Garbage, was an unexpected smash, selling over 4 million copies. The band members are scottish vocalist Shirley Manson and american musicians Duke Erikson, Steve Marker, Butch Vig.

I chose The Pretender by Foo Fighters for a good music video. The front man comes out first, and band join him when he starts singing. I think this is to put most of our concentration on the singer. The singer/guitarist is at the front being most important, the other guitarist is to his right, the basest hanging back to the left, and the drummer behind them all. The order they stand shows the importance of the band members. They are in a lit up white room with a red back-wall. This is a nice modern looking setting. The video is basically made of shots of the band members. The faster the music the quicker the camera change. When the riot shield guy walks in, it adds more of a music video effect. Then after a while a whole row of riot shield guys walk in which leads to the audience question the video, and start to think of the possibilities of what's about happen. When the guys put there visors down the music builds up and the audience expects the chorus, but the music slows down. The video is in slow motion when the riot shield guys run. The red wall explodes which looks amazing, and disorientates the riot shield guys but not the band. The band carries on and plays the chorus. Most of the video after are in slow motion, this is to see the red liquid splashing everywhere. Towards the end of the song the video becomes really fast paced. The video finishes with the singer on his knees, putting the audience concentration on him again. Overall it is a great video.
